3D fashion design concepts are coming to the baby and toddler market in the next few years, according to a report from market research firm Euromonitor.
The report, The Future of Baby Fashion Design , suggests that a shift to 3D clothing will make it easier for consumers to find and shop for clothing that suits their needs, even if it’s for a specific style or style of clothes.
The study notes that 3D design, which is the creation of two or more dimensions on a printed surface, can be applied to apparel and footwear, including baby clothes and toys.
The 3D fabric is created using an array of methods including laser cutting, inkjet printing, and laser scanning, said Paul A. Leger, a vice president at Euromonitors.
The design of the garments also is made to match the style of the user, he said.
“There’s a lot of buzz about 3D printing, so I think people are really interested in the possibilities of 3D apparel and accessories,” Leger said.
The study estimates that baby and teen clothing sales are expected to rise to $2.8 billion by 2020.
The research firm projects that apparel sales will reach $1.3 billion by 2024.
“The trend for apparel that looks great on babies is definitely a big market,” Leer said.
The trend is growing as people wear them more, Leger added.
“I think the trend will continue to grow,” Lever said.
Leger said the trend is starting to be seen in baby and toddlers and toddlers are getting into fashion.
The industry is starting with baby and young children, he added.
In the next five years, the study estimates, apparel sales for the baby market will reach nearly $1 billion.
It says the apparel market will grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 16.5%.
The clothing segment is projected to grow from $2 billion in 2020 to $4.1 billion in 2025.
Leer expects that growth to continue, with the number of items available to consumers growing to about 2.5 billion.
“What I think is really exciting is the potential for the apparel industry to be able to do that for a long time, so there’s no reason why it can’t be a major growth driver,” Legers said.
He also said there are already some 3D printed items that are being sold.
“In the baby apparel market, there are a few items that have already gone to the market, but they’re probably the most successful, so they’re in the best position to take advantage of the growth,” Leber said.
